Spix, you sometimes ate
 
from the licuri palm, you
climbed the zizyphus cactus
 
to drink her fleshy fruit.
Feathered in sky blue
 
you gathered seeds from
the pinhao-brabo tree
 
and when you ate you
spread the love and
 
the entire jungle ate with you
because as you ate you
 
bathed in juice red as dragon’s
blood and rolled around like
 
the village drunk
               singing your heart out.
